Jackson County Work Release Center - 1995

The 31,600 sq. ft. addition and alterations to the 85 bed Jackson County work release minimum security jail included a new 2,500 sq. ft. kitchen including: equipment, cooler/freezer and loading dock.

The facility was designed to house non-violent detainees with less than one year to serve. Dormitories were selected as the best and most economical design. Three dormitories, One female and two male with supporting kitchen, library, program and recreation space were organized around a central control station using glass to separate spaces and allowing open sight lines to all portions of the dorms and corridors. Special attention was given to interior designs to maintain an open “least confined” visual experience.

Future expansion can be provided by converting the two recreation yards to new dormitories (structural and electrical issues have been completed with this in mind). New recreation yards would be provided to the south.
