Rogue Valley International - Medford Airport
Air Traffic Control Tower

In 2006 the process was started to design and construct a new 100 foot high Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) at the Rogue Valley International –
MedfordAirport.  The seven story structure will be a fifty year life-cycle building housing state of the art communications equipment and emphasizing sustainability and energy awareness.  Initial designs incorporated rain-screen and ground source energy technologies; these design features were modified to more conventional systems to address “first cost” budget requirements.  Energy conservation has been a watch word for the ATCT project as evidenced by the selection of a low energy use elevator, glazing material selections, recapture air distribution system, isolation of each floor as a separate HVAC system and advanced power distribution for communication and building equipment. Sustainable building considerations defined the selection of construction materials for the new ATCT. The building frame is of steel clad with a combination of concrete masonry units at the ground level, providing jet blast protection, and stucco above for a long term effective weather barrier.  The roofing material is a single ply light gray colored product over sloped insulation increasing resistance to heat build-up and energy lose.
