JuvenileServicesCenter

The new JuvenileServicesCenter is located on the edge of JacksonCounties urban campus.  The two-story, four square, 60,000sf essential facility building abuts transition housing and the urban campus. Site constraints and owner requirements, predisposed building configurations and volumes that required special attention to exterior elevations that address the transition areas, the campus and interior uses with prescribed needs.

Programmed building functions include, detention with recreation for 40 youths and shelter for 16 non secure youth on the second floor.  The ground floor includes intake, assessment and probation, courts and court remanded school. Public accessible building functions are located on the ground floor reducing vertical transportation requirements and unnecessary contact with detainees. Youth detention is provided in two pods, each with 20 single cells, central day room, class room and access to exterior and interior recreation.  The detention floor plan develops around a central control that has direct vision to the pods, shelter and gym.  Future expansion plans relocate the shelter and gym and convert the space to two (20 cell) detention pods, all four pods directly monitored by existing central control.
